West Brom’s official Twitter account recently posted a tweet that included some training footage featuring Sam Johnstone, which has got plenty of Baggies fans talking.
Johnstone can be seen participating in a goalkeeping training drill at the beginning of this footage. After that, the video shows him making a save from a close-range shot during a training session.
This footage, which is accompanied by the words “Our number one”, has caught the attention of a lot of West Brom supporters.

Johnstone moved to The Hawthorns from Manchester United back in July 2018 for a transfer fee of £6.62m, as per Transfermarkt. In the 2018/19 campaign, Johnstone played in all 46 of the Baggies’ regular-season games, conceding 62 goals and keeping nine clean sheets as the club finished in fourth place and ultimately failed to earn promotion via the play-offs.
This season, Johnstone has played more league minutes than any other Baggies player and has conceded just 37 goals, keeping 10 league clean sheets thus far, which is an improvement on last season’s clean sheet record despite not having played as many games as of yet.
With all of that in mind, it appears as though Johnstone has played an important role for West Brom this term and it may not be too surprising to see that plenty of Baggies fans have shared praise for the goalkeeper in response to this training footage.
