Some Celtic fans have been talking about the latest tweet that BBC journalist Tom English recently shared on social media.
English’s latest post saw him share a tweet that was originally put out by the SPFL Trust. This confirmed that philanthropist James Anderson has now given the SPFL the ‘biggest personal donation’ in the history of Scottish football. The post confirmed that the grant is of over £3 million and this will be used as financial help for SPFL clubs and their communities.
English quote-tweeted this, hailing Anderson’s ‘tremendous generosity’. He also called this the ‘real deal’ and the journalist’s tweet attracted many Celtic fans. They mocked what he had to say about this deal.
Tremendous generosity from James Anderson. No strings attached. The real deal. https://t.co/dI4EtyIyFn

@SPFLTrust Think if l had £2m to give away I’d find a better cause, like feeding hungry children, but everyone to their own..

Does this James Anderson deal smell fishy?
Yes, something is wrong
No, I think its great
Clubs need to show how the money will be used and that must meet certain requirements….. Strings !!!!!

You do realise, that after the utter rejection of reconstruction, that if there is a surprise change in position, this becomes very “murky”

These fans seem to have some questions about how this donation scheme with Anderson would work, with one also questioning if the ‘no strings attached’ idea is relevant or not.
And there could be something in what they’re saying, as it was Hearts owner Ann Budge who had initially come up with this idea to fund the clubs in the SPFL. Budge even proposed league reconstruction plans and all of this happened after Hearts had been relegated from the Premiership.
Some more Celtic fans think that this could be a ploy and that the idea of ‘no strings attached’ is false.
No such thing as free money, you probably already know that.

No strings? Don’t believe that for a second
— Mackie (@Corpycowboy) June 10, 2020
One fan even stated that it was great news.
Absolutely great news for Scottish football, but I’ll always remain sceptical about someone handing over that amount of money without receiving something in return

Many Celtic fans don’t seem to have a positive opinion about this news update involving Anderson. Some don’t believe the whole thing, while others have their own reasons to disapprove of this deal.
But it is important to keep in mind that finances in football have been affected by the pandemic. So clubs might need external help to stabilise themselves during these times. That is what Anderson’s donations can do and it will only help the clubs and the communities involved.
