Celtic pundit Keith McGinty has given some insight about the situation of Marian Shved at Parkhead and why he isn’t playing often for the club.

McGinty was recently present on the latest episode of ‘The Cynic Weekly’ podcast and discussions were held about the situations of many Celtic players. One of the players the panel discussed was outcast Shved.

Starting with an easy one- apart from Paris Saint-Germain, which other French club did Edouard play for?

Shved joined Celtic from Karpaty Lviv in January 2019, but was loaned back to the Ukrainian club until the end of the 2018/19 season. However, since then, Shved has made only three appearances in all competitions for the Hoops.

While addressing Shved’s situation at Parkhead, McGinty said: “He’d been hyped and we’d been looking forward to seeing him and we saw wee glimpses of his skills. He scored that cracking goal in the qualifiers last year.”

Does Shved have a future at Celtic?

No, I think he'll leave

No, he'll stay

McGinty stretches back to Shved’s time at Sevilla to highlight if he actually does enough to settle into new surroundings and conditions.

“Lennon says that one thing that disappointed him was he hadn’t bothered to learn English. So after he heard about his time at Sevilla, when he got a bit homesick and had to go back to Ukraine, you’re wondering if he’s actually doing enough to actually integrate himself into the team.”

So apparently, this isn’t the first time that Shved hasn’t settled into a new club and going by what McGinty says, it has been a regular problem for the player.

TIF Thoughts…

Considering how Shved has struggled to play too much for the Hoops, there are probably off-field issues that the player is dealing with and McGinty just sheds light on that.

It is key to note that Shved performed really well for Karpaty Lviv in the 2018/19 season, scoring 15 goals in 26 games in all competitions. This shows that the quality is certainly there, though recently, he’s been linked with a move back to Karpaty and Oleksandriya are also interested. However, it is also thought that he’d only be interested in a move back to his former club.

So clearly, this could again be a case of Shved being homesick, but considering his previous numbers, he perhaps deserves more of a chance at Celtic.
