Motherwell midfielder David Turnbull is reportedly ‘very keen’ to make a move to Celtic after recovering from a serious injury.
Football Insider reports that Turnbull still ‘wants’ to join the Parkhead-based side. The report goes onto talk about how Turnbull was ‘distraught’ when a what would have been a ‘dream move’ to Celtic fell through last year. It was said that the move had fallen through at the eleventh hour and the medical had revealed a potentially career-threatening injury for Turnbull.
The report also mentions that the Hoops have kept tabs on Turnbull but there is uncertainty about whether they’ll be willing to pay the same price as they had agreed to last year.
Back in March this year, Turnbull signed a new one-year deal at Motherwell. Currently 20, Turnbull returned to first-team action this season and ended up making two Premiership appearances in the campaign. Before returning, he had missed as many as 35 games due to the knee injury.
Turnbull, who is valued at £1.62 million (Transfermarkt), had impressed in the midfield last season. He had made 34 appearances in all competitions, scoring 16 goals and picking up seven assists. In the regular Premiership season, the Scotsman contributed to 14 goals in 25 appearances for Motherwell (via Transfermarkt).
Should Celtic replace Ntcham with Turnbull?
No, keep Ntcham
That would be brilliant
TIF Thoughts…
The manner in which Turnbull has returned to fitness after his injury trouble is certainly good to see. Celtic’s Olivier Ntcham has been linked with a move to Southampton in recent weeks. He was also linked with a move to West Ham in January.
This shows that his future is insecure and if he does leave the club, signing Turnbull may be a good option for the Hoops. He is still 20 and there is potential for improvement, with the injury now out of his way.
