West Brom-focused website West Brom News recently published an article in which ex-Baggies striker Kevin Phillips declares that he would “definitely be interested” in taking on the manager’s position at West Brom’s U23 side.
Phillips, who scored 46 goals in a total of 80 appearances at The Hawthorns during his playing days, is currently out of work, having most recently been in the position of assistant manager at Stoke City – a role which he left in January 2019.
However, the former England international has now thrown his name into the hat to become the next manager of West Brom’s U23s after revealing that this role is one that he “might look at”.

This article from West Brom News explains that West Brom’s U23s have been without a permanent manager since Michael Appleton left the role to take on the manager’s position at Lincoln City back in September.
Phillips told West Brom News: “That has been mentioned to me before so maybe it is something I might look at. I would definitely be interested in that, of course.”

TIF Thoughts…
Phillips’ history with the Baggies as a player, in addition to his apparent interest in this role, may make him a popular candidate for this position. As per West Brom News, the 46-year-old has previously taken assistant roles at Leicester City, Derby County, and most recently Stoke City, since retiring from his playing career back in July 2014.
This indicates that Phillips does have prior experience of coaching at a high level. This experience could have given him an adequate amount of preparation for a role such as the managerial position at West Brom’s U23s. With that in mind, Phillips may not be a bad choice for this position.
