Daily Record journalist Gordon Parks has shed some light on how Celtic will go about their transfer business in the summer.

Parks was recently a guest on the ‘Record Celtic’ podcast and a discussion took place about the sort of players Celtic will be after in the summer transfer window. Parks revealed that the club is looking at the possibility of signing a midfielder.

Starting with an easy one- apart from Paris Saint-Germain, which other French club did Edouard play for?

The Hoops did sign a midfielder in the form of Ismaila Soro in the January transfer window, but the Ivorian has failed to break into the club’s first team, having not made a single appearance for the Hoops.

Parks revealed that the Hoops are looking for a box-to-box midfielder in the summer transfer window. He said: “The information I’ve got is that Celtic are in the market for a box-to-box midfielder, a number eight.”

Do Celtic need another midfielder in the summer?

Yes, absolutely!

Yes, absolutely!

We should play Soro

“Whether that’s a concern that Scott Brown can get through the season again and hit the heights that he’s been astonishingly managing to attain over the last while. So as far as recruitment goes, I don’t think there’s much surgery to be done. I think if they can go and get that number eight, then that’s something.

“They could probably do with another defensive option. Again, I don’t see Celtic allowing themselves to be distracted from 10-in-a-row as everything has been building towards this.”

So clearly, Parks is confident that the club will not be distracted by the prospect of winning a 10th Premiership title in a row, and that the Hoops are already putting in the efforts to reach that milestone.

TIF Thoughts…

While Brown is still a midfield option for the Hoops, Callum McGregor played the highest number of minutes for Celtic in the 2019/20 campaign. So it shows that they were perhaps reliant on his presence in the heart of the park.

Soro didn’t feature at all, while Olivier Ntcham made 38 appearances in all competitions. However, the midfielder has been linked with a move to Southampton in recent weeks – so his potential departure could increase the burden on McGregor even more.

Therefore, there could be a reason why the Hoops want another midfielder to add to their ranks. It may also be possible that they’re preparing for the exit of Ntcham. In that sense, it seems plausible that the Hoops are set to go after a midfielder this summer.
