Celtic are reportedly showing an interest in Manchester United youngster Aliou Traore.

According to France Football, Neil Lennon’s side are one of several sides taking an interest in the 19-year-old this summer, with Celtic’s Old Firm rivals and Benfica also named as potential suitors. The midfielder is yet to make an appearance for the first-team but has been a regular for Manchester United’s U18 and U23 sides in recent season (per Transfermarkt).

Starting with an easy one- apart from Paris Saint-Germain, which other French club did Edouard play for?

PSG had reportedly tried to sign the youngster back in 2016, but he opted for the Red Devils instead and his performances have seen him earn a call-up to the French U19 side, with whom he made his debut in February this year (per Transfermarkt).

TIF Thoughts…

Celtic have had success in poaching youngsters from Premier League sides in recent years, with Jeremie Frimpong perhaps the prime example. The right-back joined Celtic from Manchester City’s U23 side last summer and has excelled in his first season in Scotland; making 14 appearances and contributing two goals and three assists (per Transfermarkt).

Should Celtic make a move for Traore this summer?

However, with Traore’s contract set to run until 2021, it is unknown how much Manchester United would demand for his services, should Celtic make an official approach this summer.

Considering he is just 19 and could still foreseeably have a future with the Red Devils, he may be keen to stay, but perhaps he will take heed from the likes of Frimpong and leave the academy side to test himself in senior football. It will be interesting to see if Lennon’s side do act on their reported interest in Traore and whether he could be convinced to make the move to Celtic Park this summer.
