Celtic have recently been dealt a blow in their chase for Wolfsberger striker Shon Weissman.

Wolfsberger president Dietmar Riegler was recently talking to Sky Sport Austria about the future of Weissman and addressed a potential transfer for the striker.

Riegler said that while there has been ‘plenty of interest’ in the Israeli striker (via Daily Record), Weissman isn’t interested in joining any of those clubs. The Austrian club’s president revealed that Weissman’s goal is to play in England or Germany. The same report from Sky Sport Austria also carried quotes from Weissman, who suggested that he wants to concentrate on finishing the season with Wolfsberger.

Starting with an easy one: which Italian club did Nakamura join Celtic from?

This comes some weeks after Weissman was linked with a move to Parkhead. The Telegraph had claimed that the Hoops will look at signing the Israeli if Odsonne Edouard leaves the club at some point. It now seems as though Weissman wouldn’t like a Parkhead switch.

Are you disappointed that Celtic won't sign Weissman?

The striker has been in fine form for Wolfsberger this season. The 24-year-old has found the back of the net 24 times in as many league games. In all competitions, Weissman has contributed to 37 goals in just 33 appearances (31 goals, 6 assists) for the Austrian club (via Transfermarkt).

TIF Thoughts…

Weissman’s numbers are brilliant for any striker in world football, and it is clear that he has an impressive goalscoring rate.

That said, Neil Lennon has already confirmed that Celtic are in talks to hand Edouard a new contract.

As it stands, Celtic are set to have plenty of striking options next season, including Edouard, Leigh Griffiths, Patryk Klimala and Vakoun Bayo. Therefore, adding another striker to their arsenal may not be a sensible move without any outgoings. So perhaps it is a blessing in disguise that Weissman isn’t looking to join Celtic and prefers a move to England or Germany.
