German club Borussia Dortmund have reportedly ruled out making a summer move for Celtic forward Odsonne Edouard.

This comes after it was published in a report by Sport 1 (via Sport Witness) that Dortmund have dropped their interest in signing Edouard as a backup striker for Erling Haaland.

Starting with an easy one- apart from Paris Saint-Germain, which other French club did Edouard play for?

The report also claims that Edouard was scouted on several occasions by Dortmund and that their chief scout Markus Pilawa even made contact with the forward about a potential move to Germany.

The Frenchman first signed to Celtic on a loan deal from Paris Saint-Germain back in 2017. After making 29 total appearances for the Scottish club in the 2017/18 season, in which he managed to score 11 goals and provide four assists, the forward then signed on a permanent basis for a fee of £9.27 million (per Transfermarkt).

The 2018/19 season saw Edouard score 22 goals in 52 appearances and then this current season has seen the forward score 27 goals in 45 appearances across all competitions (per Transfermarkt).

Earlier this month, Edouard was awarded the Scottish Football Writers’ Player of the Year just days after being named as Celtic’s Player of the Year.

TIF Thoughts…

Looking at how important Edouard has been for Celtic in terms of his goalscoring, the club will undoubtedly be thankful that Dortmund have reportedly dropped their interest in signing the striker this summer.

Taking into account his goalscoring record for Neil Lennon’s side, it’s understandable why the German club would be scouting Edouard in the first place.

You would think that Celtic will be hoping that Edouard doesn’t leave the club and continues to score plenty of goals for the club like he has been doing since he arrived.
