Wolverhampton Wanderers are supposedly keen on signing Hamilton Academical centre-back Jamie Hamilton, with Liverpool also in the race.

According to TEAMtalk, Nuno Espirito Santo’s outfit are set for a ‘battle’ with a Premier League rival for the signature of the Scottish defender.

As stated in the report, Jurgen Klopp’s Liverpool wish to sign Hamilton to place him in their development squad.

Back in January, TEAMtalk also reported that Everton, Aston Villa, Brighton and Hove Albion, Fulham, Burnley and the Old Gold were keen on securing the Hamilton youngster.

However, their latest report states that both Wolves and Liverpool are now at ‘the front of the pecking order’ for the 18-year-old centre-back.

Hamilton currently has just under two years left on his contract at the Fountain of Youth Stadium and a market value of £270,000 (per Transfermarkt).

TIF Thoughts…

For an 18-year-old, it would be fair to say that the central defender has played a relatively respectable amount of first-team football in the league this season, which may bode well.

Hamilton has made 12 league appearances for the Accies, having sporadically featured for the first team this season (per Transfermarkt).

This is far more first-team league action than Max Kilman has had for the Old Gold this season, with the 23-year-old Englishman having made only three Premier League outings (per Transfermarkt).

However, Kilman has made eight first-team appearances in cup competitions this season.

One thing which may let the Scottish central defender down, though, is a shocking disciplinary record this season, as he has picked up three red cards over those 12 Scottish Premiership outings.

On his league debut for Hamilton against Motherwell, the defender was red-carded after just 20 minutes in a match which they would lose 3-1.

In February, against Celtic, Hamilton was sent off after 34 minutes and the Accies lost 4-1. Following a two-game suspension, he was sent off against Hearts while his side were 2-0 up after 21 minutes, with the match finishing 2-2.

So, if Wolves do sign the 18-year-old from Hamilton, perhaps instilling some discipline may be the first call of action for the coaching staff.
