Everton are reportedly ‘interested’ in signing Brazilian midfielder Andreas Pereira from Premier League rivals Manchester United, with West Ham and Newcastle United also in the race.
According to a report by the Daily Star, the Toffees may be keen to acquire the services of the 24-year-old middleman alongside two other top-flight sides.
It is believed that Newcastle United and West Ham United are both also interested in the Red Devils’ midfielder.
As stated in the Daily Star’s report, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side is supposedly keen on signing Ajax’s Dutch midfielder Donny van de Beek and the sale of Pereira would help fund the transfer.
Van de Beek would supposedly set the Manchester club back somewhere in the region of £44m, according to the report.
Pereira, however, currently has three years remaining on his current contract and a market value of £14.4m (per Transfermarkt).
TIF Thoughts…
When considering the Brazilian’s statistics in the Premier League this season, it may seem that a move for the United midfielder would not be a sensible one for Carlo Ancelotti.
In comparison with Gylfi Sigurdsson, Pereira already begins to look a weaker option when viewing their average ratings in the top flight.
This term, Everton’s Icelandic midfielder has earned an uninspiring 6.68/10 average rating in the Premier League (per WhoScored), whereas Pereira has a weaker 6.59/10 average rating (per WhoScored).
Would Andreas Pereira be a good signing for the Toffees? No, he's not good enoughYes, he's a decent player |
While Manchester United’s Brazilian has managed one more assist than Sigurdsson in three fewer league appearances, he has scored weaker in key passing statistics.
Sigurdsson has made 1.8 key passes per game, delivered 1.3 crosses per game and had a passing success percentage of 81.7% per league game on average this season, Pereira has made 1.3 key passes per match, delivered 0.4 crosses per match and had a passing success percentage of 77.6% per league outing.
So, it would seem that Ancelotti already has a better player than Pereira at his disposal, however, the Brazilian does have age on his side as he is 24 and Sigurdsson is 30.
