On the latest episode of The Extra Inch, Chris Miller, Nathan Clark and @BardiTFC have been discussing the latest goings-on at the north London club, including a discussion of Southampton midfielder and reported transfer target Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg.

The Danish international has regularly been linked with Spurs in recent months, with Sky Sports originally reporting on Spurs’ interest during the January transfer window, whilst The Telegraph recently suggested that the Lilywhites could sign the 24-year-old this summer.

How well can you remember Spurs' season so far? - Who did Spurs beat in the opening fixture?

This led to a discussion of the Southampton midfielder on the latest Extra Inch podcast, with Bardi first suggesting that the midfielder is: “The perfect signing for us.”

Miller disagrees, however, saying:

“I don’t think he’s the perfect signing, but I do think he’s an upgrade on most of our midfield options, if not all of them. He’s a much better gap filler than Winks and Sissoko and a much more competent footballer than Eric Dier.”

He also goes on to add a much more in-depth description of Hojbjerg and his general character, saying:

“He’s incredibly intelligent about football and all kinds of other things. At Southampton, one of the reasons he’s club captain is because he’s got this concept of understanding that the DNA of a club runs throughout every age group at the club. So he treats the under-10s, as a worthy group of young footballers and will communicate with them and he says that that comes from being at Bayern where the Bayern DNA ran through the club where they’d have players in their 70s still working as ambassadors and in roles there.

“But he said that, one of the reasons he was recruited at Bayern, was because it was already in him to be like that, to understand and appreciate the nature of a football club. He’s a really, really, really interesting character and I do feel as though he would be the glue in the dressing room and on the pitch and I’m well up for signing him.”

TIF Thoughts…

Considering Hojbjerg’s average rating of 6.82/10 in the Premier League so far this season sees him ahead of Spurs’ other defensive-midfield options of Winks (6.52), Sissoko (6.68) and Dier (6.63), you could certainly argue that the Danish midfielder would be a welcome addition in Jose Mourinho’s squad ahead of next season.

Do you think Spurs should sign Hojbjerg this summer?

No

It has been previously reported that the Saints could demand up to £35 million for the former Bayern man, but considering his contract expires next summer, and Transfermarkt currently values him at £10.8 million, it is hard to see Spurs paying anywhere near that should they make a move for the 24-year-old this summer.
