Southampton have reportedly placed an asking price of £35 million on Tottenham Hotspur target Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg.

The Daily Mail recently reported that Saints chief executive Martin Semmens has admitted to not standing in Hojbjerg’s way if he wants to leave the club. However, he also believes that potential suitors will have to meet their valuation of the midfielder if they want to sign the Dane, which is thought to stand at £35 million.

The report also claims that the Saints are interested in cash deals only and this may be a blow to Tottenham Hotspur. That is because Spurs’ transfer budget is expected to be limited this summer and they will be restricted to making cheaper deals in the transfer market.

Spurs have previously been linked with a move for the midfielder and it was reported that Hojbjerg will be at the ‘top’ of their midfield targets this summer.

Do you think Tottenham can pay £35 million for Hojbjerg?

Yes, they can

The 2019/20 season has seen Hojbjerg play regularly in midfield for the Saints. He has made 33 appearances in all competitions for the club, with 28 of them coming in the Premier League (via Transfermarkt).

TIF Thoughts…

Hojbjerg has been the club’s third-best performer this season and has racked up an average WhoScored match rating of 6.82/10. This reflects his importance to the club and why the Saints value him pretty high in the market.

But considering that the 24-year-old is currently valued at £10.8 million by Transfermarkt, it may be tough to see how Southampton can earn £35 million from Hojbjerg’s sale. But since he’s clearly an important player, the Saints will not want to lose the midfielder on the cheap, which rather justifies their stance.
