Aston Villa goalkeeper Matija Sarkic is reportedly in talks with Wolves over a potential transfer deal.

This comes after it was claimed in a report by the Express & Star that Nuno Espirito Santo’s side are apparently “in talks” to sign the goalkeeper when his contract at Villa runs out.

Who scored Villa's goal in their 1-0 win against Stoke City on the opening day of the 2014/15 Premier League season?

The report also added that Wolves are “keen on landing the 22-year-old Montenegro international on a free transfer, with a view to sending him out on loan to gain more senior experience.”

It was also claimed that Wolves is Sarkic’s “preferred destination”.

Sarkic told Vijesti (via Birmingham Mail), last month that he intends to leave Villa Park when his contract expires because he doesn’t see there being a “real chance” for him to play for the club anytime soon. He also added that there is “interest” in him from clubs abroad and in England, one of which now being revealed as Wolves.

Would you be happy if Sarkic went to Wolves on a free transfer?

The 22-year-old signed for Villa back in 2015 from Belgian side Anderlecht.

Since then, Sarkic has completed numerous loan deals away from Villa since 2017, the latest being a stint at Scottish side Livingston where he spent the first half of this current season before returning to Villa Park in January (per Transfermarkt).

In 14 appearances for Livingston in the Scottish Premiership, Sarkic managed to keep a total of six clean sheets during his spell at the club (per Transfermarkt).

TIF Thoughts…

With Dean Smith’s side currently having Tom Heaton, Orjan Nyland, Pepe Reina and Jed Steer in their squad, it’s understandable why Sarkic may feel he isn’t as close to being a regular starter for Villa as he wishes to be.

However, if these reports are true that Wolves could look to send Sarkic out on loan to gather experience, then that’s exactly the position he’s been in at Villa.

If Wolves can assure the shot-stopper that he will become a regular starter for the club in the near future, then maybe he will make the move.
