A report that was recently published by The Telegraph has claimed that Michael Laudrup is “among the contenders” to become the next Birmingham City manager.

As per the Blues’ official website, current Birmingham boss Pep Clotet is set to depart from St. Andrew’s at the end of the 2019/20 campaign. This post states that the Blues have “agreed to allow the 43-year-old to explore other coaching opportunities”, whilst the report also quotes Clotet as stating that this decision has been “really difficult” for him to make, however, the Spaniard is also quoted as saying that this is “the best step for everyone”.

We will look at Marcelo Bielsa to kick off this quiz on the Championship's managers, which of these national teams has the Leeds United boss managed?

Laudrup is one of the names that has been mentioned as the Blues seek Clotet’s successor. The Dane is currently without a club, having last managed Qatari club Al Rayyan from September 2016 until June 2018

As explained by this article from The Telegraph, Laudrup, who scored 97 goals in 296 appearances for Barcelona during his playing career, has prior experience of managing in Britain from his time as Swansea City’s manager. The Danish coach guided the Swans to their “first major trophy in more than a century” during his time with the club.

TIF Thoughts…

Laudrup has not managed in the Championship before and managers with experience of working in England’s second tier and successfully achieving promotion from it may be more appealing – as the Dane may be something of a gamble without any previous at this level.

However, Laudrup did show his ability to deliver silverware in English football during his time with Swansea, and that may make Laudrup an interesting choice for Birmingham City.
