Some Southampton fans have been discussing the latest news update involving Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg that emerged on social media recently.
Saints boss Ralph Hasenhuttl recently said that the Danish midfielder cannot expect to remain as the club’s captain if he doesn’t sign a new contract. The Austrian confirmed this in an interview with BBC Radio Solent and said that while this isn’t ‘good’ for Hojbjerg, a player cannot lead a team without extending his contract at the club.
When BBC Radio Solent Twitter by BBC Radio Solent. It attracted the attention of many Saints fans, with many of them criticising Hojbjerg and calling for him to go.
Hojbjerg talks the talk, can’t shoot, can’t pass. Time to cash in. If Forster wants out, cash him in too, maybe exchange deal for Ajer & Frimpong?

Is this the right time to sell Hojbjerg?
Yes, punt him
He should be kept!
Sell Hojbjerg as soon as possible, before he poisons the team spirit. We’ve been here before. If he doesn’t want to play for us, go. Pretty poor from him as team captain. JWP to take the armband. @southamptonfc.

Just sell him and get some kids through. He’s good but definitely not irreplaceable. Has had some shocking games too

Always rated @hojbjerg23 stuck with him when he was frozen out early on and loved seeing him kick on in Ralphs first half season. Reality is though the performances haven’t been consistent this season. Can’t fault his commitment on the pitch though. If he wants to go, sell now..

This season, Hojbjerg has been a regular in the midfield for Southampton. He has made 33 appearances in all competitions, with 28 of them coming in the Premier League (via Transfermarkt).
The midfielder has picked up a WhoScored rating of 6.82/10 this season, which is the third-highest at the club this season. Despite this, many Saints fans made their displeasure for Hojbjerg clear.
Like PEH, he’s improved and is thinking about moving on. Doing it professionally and not in the style of previous captains…
But…
Respect Ralph even more here:
You want to lead? Commit
You want to leave? Give back the armbandLike it.

Pleased to hear Ralph talking sense and leading by example. I’ve had enough of our captains kissing the badge then walking away…

Captain’s curse. #vandijk #fonte #lallana

These Saints fans don’t seem to have a liking for the midfielder. It was reported that he has rejected a contract offer from the club. More recently, he has spoken to Danish outlet Sport1 about his dreams of winning the Champions League and the Premier League, amid links with a move to Tottenham Hotspur.
This shows that Hojbjerg’s future at Southampton is pretty uncertain. Hasenhuttl’s comments might just have confirmed that and Saints fans are bound to be concerned about this.
