Nice easy one to start off with, which club did Newcastle United sign Shearer from in 1996?

Ryder, while speaking about the Toon’s match against Sheffield United on Sunday, was asked about the takeover and what impact he thinks it might have had on the squad.

Here is what the Chronicle reporter had to say about this:

“I don’t think it will affect them too much.

“They’re used to this now, we’ve had it for three years.

“I’ve been writing this story for a big chunk of my writing career, and it’s probably been up for sale since 2009.

“It won’t affect things too much because, to be honest, if they do have someone that comes in with a bottomless pit of money, then the reality is some of these players won’t be here, so some of them will be quietly happy that it’s still the way it is at the moment.”

This is an interesting insight from Ryder, and he seems to believe that the ongoing takeover talk will not have a negative impact on Newcastle’s squad as if a takeover does happen, he believes some will be shipped out.

Do you think the takeover will have any impact on the squad?

Yes, might make them play better

Yes, might make them play better

No, will make no difference

No, will make no difference

TIF Thoughts…

The takeover saga has been going on for a long time now, since a deposit was paid to Mike Ashley in April.

However, the Premier League has still not reached a decision, leaving the Toon in a state of limbo over certain contracts and other decisions.

So although Ryder is saying this has had little impact, it has essentially frozen the club.

It will be interesting to see if the players can put all of that out of their minds on Sunday as Chris Wilder’s Blades visit St. James’ Park.
