Gregor Robertson, speaking on the latest episode of The Times’ The Game Football Podcast with Natalie Sawyer and Matt Dickinson, has been discussing the future of Steve Bruce.

Nice easy one to start off with, which club did Newcastle United sign Shearer from in 1996?

Robertson spent a bit of time on Newcastle but spoke mainly about Bruce’s future, with a possible takeover on the horizon.

Here is what he had to say about Bruce’s future:

“If this takeover goes through, and it’s still a big if – he’s [Bruce] even come out [on Sunday] and said he wants some clarity himself and I think everyone does at this stage.

“If it goes through though, then it’s such a colossal change in outlook for that football club, and it would almost be a way of getting the fans onside by showing him the exit door and bringing in a big name.

“It’s an easy tick of the box for a new owner of the football club.”

It seems as if Robertson believes that if the Toon’s takeover goes through, Bruce will be sacked by the new owners as a way of getting the fans to support them.

Do you think Bruce is in trouble if new owners arrive?

Yes, they could appoint a big name

No, they might give him a chance

TIF Thoughts…

Bruce spoke after Manchester City knocked his side out of the FA Cup and claimed that he wanted some clarity from the Premier League as the situation was not helping anybody.

The deal for Amanda Staveley’s Saudi-backed consortium to take Newcastle from Mike Ashley is still with the Premier League going through the required checks.

However, Premier League chief executive Richard Masters did confirm that he was hoping for a conclusion ‘shortly’.

Hopefully, this saga will be coming to an end soon, and if Robertson is right, the takeover could well signal the end of Bruce’s reign as well.
