A lot of Newcastle United fans have replied to a tweet from NUFC 360, which has relayed news from the Daily Mail concerning the proposed takeover of the Toon.

Nice easy one to start off with, which club did Newcastle United sign Shearer from in 1996?

They claim that if the takeover is approved, the Toon’s potential new owners will appoint a technical director and will launch a ‘mega-money transfer drive’ to try and secure some of Europe’s top players.

The piece states that Newcastle will have significant funds to spend, but they want to take a more measured approach to spending and want a technical director in place.

Potential options for the job include Fortuna Dusseldorf’s current sporting director Lutz Pfannenstiel and Paris Saint-Germain’s former sporting director Antero Henrique.

However, the piece ends by stating that the takeover remains in the balance and that the Premier League are ‘seriously considering’ blocking the takeover.

This has drawn a reaction from these Toon fans who are worried about the takeover.

The deal for Amanda Staveley’s Saudi-backed consortium to buy Newcastle from Mike Ashley has been with the Premier League since April after a deposit was paid to Ashley.

However, according to The Athletic, the Premier League do not see how they can pass the deal unless Saudi Arabia make some concessions in regards to BeoutQ and the unblocking of BeIN Sports.

BeIN Sports made a complaint about the piracy station BeoutQ, which, according to a report by the World Trade Organisation, has direct links to the Saudi government.

This makes the whole process complicated, and it is, therefore, understandable why many Toon fans feel this deal won’t happen.

Others, however, appear to be bored with the whole thing.

If this takeover goes through then, Newcastle will have some major wealth backing them, but the concerns over piracy could see the Premier League reject this deal.

It will be interesting to see what happens.
