Nice easy one to start off with, which club did Newcastle United sign Shearer from in 1996?

The Daily Mail claims that Newcastle have extended the 23-year-old’s contract and informed him that he would be part of the first-team squad next season.

The piece states that Barlaser is ‘unrecognisable’ from the player who last made a first-team appearance for Newcastle in 2017.

As well as this, it is claimed that Shola Ameobi has returned positive reports about Barlaser.

The piece also states that Newcastle extended his deal in March but did not announce anything.

No, what a pointless contract

However, this has not gone down well with many Newcastle fans, who believe that now this has happened, the proposed takeover of the Toon is off.

Newcastle are currently in the middle of a takeover bid from Amanda Staveley’s Saudi-backed consortium and are awaiting the Premier League’s approval.

If the bid is accepted, Newcastle will have some major wealth backing them, but it is clear that some Toon fans feel that this news means the takeover is off.

Meanwhile, other Toon fans believe that this news means Matty Longstaff is definitely leaving.

Longstaff has reportedly received a contract offer worth £30,000 per week from Udinese, and his deal with Newcastle runs out at the end of this month – so it seems that many Newcastle fans feel that Barlaser will be his replacement.

However, there are a couple of Newcastle supporters who are happy to see Barlaser receive a new deal.

The 23-year-old has made 27 league appearances for Rotherham United this season, and he has earned an average match rating of 7.24/10 – giving him the third-highest rating in Rotherham’s squad.

It will be interesting to see if he can take that form into the Premier League next season.
