Speaking on the latest episode of The Transfer Window Podcast with Ian McGarry, Duncan Castles has revealed that Amanda Staveley’s Saudi-backed consortium believe that Henry Mauriss’ supposed rival bid for Newcastle United is ridiculous.

Nice easy one to start off with, which club did Newcastle United sign Shearer from in 1996?

Castles speaking about the proposed takeover of the Toon mentioned the buying sides’ view of the bid from Mauriss, and it appears as if they are not threatened by it all.

Here is what Castles had to say about the view Staveley’s group have on Mauriss’ bid.

“Certainly, on the part of the buying group, there is no concern that Mauriss is a real candidate to replace them.

“The idea that he is going to put more money down on the table with reports of [a] £350m bid they say is ridiculous, and their information is that there’s been no proof of funds from Mauriss’ side.

“If I was, to sum up, what they think about Mauriss when I question them, I would say that they are supremely unconcerned and, in their view, there will not be a better offer to Mike Ashley.”

It seems as if the buyers do not see this bid from Mauriss as a threat to their intention of owning Newcastle United.

Do you think Mauriss is a serious bidder?

No, he is just a ploy to stop the takeover

TIF Thoughts…

Mauriss’ interest in the Toon emerged in April, and last week he made a formal offer; however, it appears as if those on the buying side are not concerned by this, and it feels as if they see Mauriss’ bid as a bit of a joke really.

Also, if reports are to be believed, the Premier League are getting closer to making their decision on this takeover from Staveley, and her Saudi consortium with Craig Hope believing a decision is now just days away.

The Daily Mail reporter also believes that the decision from the PL will be positive, and Newcastle could have new owners very soon.

Hopefully, he is right, and this saga is coming to an end.
