Liverpool are reportedly set to deny Philippe Coutinho a return to Anfield this summer.

This comes after it was recently published in a report by Spanish media outlet Sport (via the Liverpool Echo) that Liverpool would not be willing to make a deal for Coutinho because of the hefty financial aspects to it.

2018/19 season quiz: How many points did Jurgen Klopp's side accumulate in the Premier League?

Coutinho first signed to the Merseyside club back in January 2013 from Italian side Inter Milan for a fee of £11.7 million (per Transfermarkt).

Before leaving Anfield in 2018 for a move to Barcelona, Coutinho made 201 appearances for the Reds, in which he managed to score a total of 54 goals and provide 45 assists along the way.

In his first season at Barcelona, Coutinho – who is currently valued at £50.4 million according to Transfermarkt – made a total of 54 appearances across all competitions, scoring 11 goals and providing five assists.

This year, however, has seen Coutinho move on a loan deal away from Barcelona at Bundesliga champions Bayern Munich, during which he has managed to score nine goals and provide eight assists in 32 appearances (per Transfermarkt).

Coutinho’s performances in his 22 Bundesliga appearances so far this season has resulted in him earning a season rating of 7.27/10, making him Bayern’s seventh highest-rated player for this campaign (per WhoScored).

TIF Thoughts…

It appears that Coutinho’s impressive season on loan at Bayern this season has not done much to persuade the Merseyside club to splash the cash and bring the Brazilian back to Anfield.

If the Reds’ financial situation didn’t stand in the way of a potential deal to bring Coutinho back to the club, there would be no guarantee he would fit back into Jurgen Klopp’s side.
