Liverpool are open to moving Loris Karius on this summer, according to the Turkish newspaper Aksam (via Sport Witness). The report also claims Turkish Super Lig club Goztepe are interested in taking the 26-year-old stopper on loan.

Karius moved to Istanbul to represent Besiktas on loan back in August 2018, however, he cut his stay short and terminated his contract with the club after a row regarding unpaid wages (as per Sport Witness).

The former Mainz goalkeeper made 32 appearances for the Turkish club this season, conceding 46 goals and keeping eight clean sheets (via Transfermarkt.co.uk). His average performance rating in the Turkish top-flight was 6.59/10 according to WhoScored – which in our view, seems somewhat underwhelming.

2018/19 season quiz: How many points did Jurgen Klopp's side accumulate in the Premier League?

Karius famously had a night to forget in Liverpool colours during the 2018 UEFA Champions League final versus Real Madrid (as per BBC Sport) and shortly after he was on his way out of Anfield.

TIF Thoughts…

The same summer that Karius left Anfield on loan, the Reds splashed out £56.25m to sign the Brazilian goalkeeper Alisson Becker from the Serie A giants Roma and having more recently recruited Adrian as a backup to the 27-year-old, Karius’ chances of getting game time at Anfield seem very slim.

Do you think Karius can rebuild his Anfield career?

No

Jurgen Klopp’s side brought Karius in from Mainz in 2016 and the German coach showed much faith in the goalkeeper, however, in hindsight, we believe the stopper wasn’t ready to become the club’s number one.

In our view, Liverpool have moved on from Karius and having seen his value decrease since leaving Anfield on loan, a sale and a fresh start for the player himself could be the best solution for all parties.
