Liverpool Echo journalist Dave Prentice has discussed the recent transfer rumours surrounding Everton’s French midfielder Morgan Schneiderlin.

Last week, it was reported that Ligue 1 club OGC Nice are interested in acquiring the services of the former Manchester United midfielder and L’Equipe reported that he was keen to go (via Sport Witness).

Supposedly, the Toffees value the 30-year-old at around the €8-10m (£7.2-£9m) mark.

So, in the latest episode of the Royal Blue Everton podcast, the Liverpool Echo’s head of sport discussed the potential departure of the Frenchman.

We'll start easy for this Everton kits quiz, which shirt sponsor did the Toffees announce that their partnership with would be being brought to a premature end earlier this season?

Prentice said: “I think we need to move him off the books because of his wage situation.

“If that means moving him on a free transfer, so be it.

“I think €8-10m is being quite ambitious, to be perfectly honest. I know the club do try and drive a hard bargain whenever they can in the transfer market.

“But in these circumstances, I’d be inclined to maybe just cut your losses and try and accept just the fact that he will move on and do a job somewhere else and just lose that wage off the bill that you can then use somewhere else.”

TIF Thoughts…

As can be seen in these comments, the journalist clearly believes that the best course of action for the club would be to sell the midfielder to Nice.

According to Spotrac, the Frenchman is currently one of the higher earners at the club as he is on a £100,000-per-week contract.

Should Everton just cut their losses on Morgan Schneiderlin and sell him for whatever they can get?

Yes, he's not good enough

No, he's not a bad player

Due to the fact that the 30-year-old has been only the club’s 16th-best performer for the Toffees in the league this season with a weak 6.42/10 average rating (per WhoScored), it could be argued the wage does not represent his abilities.

So, as Prentice suggested, it may be best for the Merseyside outfit to move the player on if there is the opportunity to do so.
