According to recent reports, Crystal Palace are facing a potential injury crisis, with the club anxiously waiting on Wilfried Zaha’s scan results.
As reported by the Evening Standard, Jeffrey Schlupp, James Tomkins, Martin Kelly, Christian Benteke and Vicente Guaita all missed out on Crystal Palace’s 4-0 defeat to Liverpool on Wednesday, with Palace being able to name just eight of the available nine positions on the substitutes bench.
Matters were made worse for Roy Hodgson’s side when Zaha was then withdrawn from the match with a calf injury, with the manager stating after the fixture (per Evening Standard):
“I imagine they [Benteke and Zaha] will be getting assessed up until Sunday. Benteke has a strain that has been scanned and diagnosed. With Wilf, we don’t really know the extent of the damage so until we get that scan on him we will just be hoping that we won’t be without the pair again.”
TIF Thoughts…
While a 4-0 loss to Premier League champions Liverpool is not necessarily a result to fret over too much, the injury to Zaha is quite the opposite.
The player has been instrumental in Palace’s fine season thus far, scoring three goals and providing three assists over his 31 appearances in the Premier League, averaging a WhoScored match rating of 7.05 – ranking him as the club’s highest-performing player of the season.
Will Zaha remain a Crystal Palace player next season?
Yes
No
As such, with Palace still very much in the hunt for a European-placed finish in the league, it would appear as if they may have to push on without their star man over their remaining fixtures of the season.
