Phil Hay, speaking on the latest episode of The Phil Hay Show, has revealed that Leeds United will look back on the signing of Eddie Nketiah as a good deal even though Arsenal recalled him in January.

Nice easy one to start. Who is this current Leeds man?

Hay discussed many topics, including the upcoming match against Fulham, but he spent a little bit of time talking about Nketiah, and this is what he had to say:

“At the end of the season, as daft as it sounds, you might look back at the Nketiah deal and say that it was worth it for the point at Preston and the win at home to Brentford and everything else.

“He did chip in with goals here and there – not a huge number – but the reality was that it was a fairly good signing when he played.

“He made a difference; he made an impact without ever feeling that the way Bielsa was playing was truly set up for somebody with Nketiah’s skillset.”

It seems as if Hay believes that the 21-year-old was a good addition for the Whites in the first half of the season.

Was Nketiah a good signing for Leeds?

Yes, he scored some important goals

No, wish he had stayed for the whole season

TIF Thoughts…

Nketiah made 17 league appearances for Leeds and scored three goals in the Championship – all scored within the last 10 minutes of games.

One of those goals was a late winner against Brentford; another came in a 1-1 draw with Preston, and another came in a 2-0 win over Barnsley.

So, that is seven points that Nketiah helped win, which is the same number of points that is the gap that Leeds have to third-placed Fulham.

Therefore, if Nketiah had not been a Leeds player, it could be argued that the Whites would have lost out on those points.

Either way, Hay is probably right that Nketiah was a good signing for Leeds.
