Turkish club Besiktas are reportedly weighing up a summer transfer move for Aston Villa goalkeeper Lovre Kalinic.

This comes after it was recently published in a report by Turkish media outlet Sabah (via Sport Witness) that Kalinic is one of the names on a list of goalkeepers Besiktas are looking at.

Who scored Villa's goal in their 1-0 win against Stoke City on the opening day of the 2014/15 Premier League season?

Back in May, Liverpool goalkeeper Loris Karius terminated his loan contract at the Turkish club after a dispute with the club owners over unpaid wages after spending the past two seasons there (per The Mirror).

Now it appears that Besiktas have turned their attention elsewhere for a new shot-stopper.

Kalinic signed for Villa back in the 2019 January transfer window from Belgian club Gent for a fee of £5.4 million (per Transfermarkt).

Since then, the Croatian has gone on to make just eight appearances for Villa’s senior side, in which he has conceded 15 goals and managed to keep just one clean sheet.

Last January, the 30-year-old signed to French club Toulouse on a loan deal.

Since moving to France, Kalinic had made four appearances for the club.

In his fourth appearance for the French club, Kalinic, who is now valued at £2.52 million (Transfermarkt), suffered a thigh injury that kept him out of action for Toulouse’s last four Ligue 1 fixtures.

TIF Thoughts…

Kalinic’s contract at Villa Park runs out in June 2023, but if he doesn’t feel like he is in the running to get a decent amount of playing time in Birmingham, moving to a different club may benefit the ‘keeper.

If Besiktas can offer Kalinic a regular starting place in their team, then he could be persuaded to leave Villa before his contract runs out there.
