According to recent reports, Aston Villa’s attacking midfielder Callum O’Hare is on his way out of the club.

Despite impressing while on loan at League One champions Coventry City this season, scoring three goals and providing four assists over his 29 appearances for the club, O’Hare’s career at Aston Villa looks to be coming to an end, after The Athletic reported that the club failed to make the player an offer of a contract extension.

Who scored Villa's goal in their 1-0 win against Stoke City on the opening day of the 2014/15 Premier League season?

According to the reports, O’Hare was keen on staying at Villa but will become a free agent when his current contract expires on 30 June.

Numerous clubs are said to be interested in the 22-year-old, including now Championship side Coventry, and Villa will not be entitled to any compensation for the midfielder as they did not offer a new contract.

TIF Thoughts…

Despite the fact that O’Hare had been involved in Villa’s first-team pre-season training at the start of this term, it would appear that the Premier League club do not deem the 22-year-old to have enough potential to make an impact on their squad, which would justify them not offering him a new deal.

O’Hare also fits into the category of one of the players that Villa chief executive Christian Purslow spoke about when he stated: “Frankly, I’m going to be brutal, 22-year-olds playing in an under-23 team means your system isn’t working. It means your system has failed because 22-year-old footballers at Aston Villa need to be in the first team.”

The midfielder did make nine first-team appearances over his spell at Villa, however, it is obvious that the player did not make a good enough impression on Dean Smith, who has ultimately decided that O’Hare is not good enough to play for the club.
