Liverpool have ‘come a long way’ under FSG’s ownership, according to Matt Addison of the Liverpool Echo.

Speaking on a recent edition of the Blood Red Podcast, the journalist praised the job they have done since taking charge of the club in 2010 but also acknowledged there have been “a few wrong decisions” along the way.

Addison said: “Liverpool have come a long way since then. FSG still have their critics and sometimes rightly so. But there’s no doubt about it, they’ve developed the football club to such an extent where a decade ago, if you said Liverpool would have the best manager in the world, potentially, with the Champions League and on the verge of winning the Premier League by so many points – 10 years ago, that was absolutely unthinkable.

2018/19 season quiz: How many points did Jurgen Klopp's side accumulate in the Premier League?

“Liverpool were within days or maybe weeks away from going into administration and the transformation since then has been undoubtedly down to FSG and the work that they’ve done.

“They’ve made a few wrong decisions along the way, but a lot of their decisions have been correct – not least appointing [Jurgen] Klopp and all the things that have happened since then.

“I think some people do forget when they moan about FSG that the dire situation that Liverpool were in at the time.”

TIF Thoughts…

Hiring Jurgen Klopp will in our view, go down as the best decision FSG have made with regards to Liverpool Football Club. The German came in back in October 2015 and has led the club to UEFA Champions League glory having reached their second consecutive final. Add to that, they accumulated an incredible 97 points in the Premier League last season but unfortunately missed out to Pep Guardiola’s Manchester City and the progress is clear for all to see.

They are now on the verge of securing their first league title since the 1989/90 triumph and that would add to another golden period in the club’s rich history. Addison was right to point out the club were heading for administration when they took over and so to be where they are now, just a decade or so later highlights the marvellous job they’ve done.
