An article that was recently published by The Athletic has shared an update on 22-year-old West Brom centre-back Jack Fitzwater.

As per Transfermarkt, Fitzwater’s Baggies contract is currently set to expire at the end of June and this report from The Athletic states that the defender is “almost certain to be released at the end of the season”. However, this report confirms that the 22-year-old has returned to training with the Baggies ahead of the planned restart of the 2019/20 Championship campaign on the weekend of 20th June.

We will look at Marcelo Bielsa to kick off this quiz on the Championship's managers, which of these national teams has the Leeds United boss managed?

Fitzwater has featured in just one game for West Brom’s senior squad during the 2019/20 season, with the 22-year-old defender making 12 Premier League 2 appearances for the Baggies’ U23 side this term. Considering that he has struggled for game time this season, it may not come as a surprise if West Brom choose not to renew the defender’s contract this summer.

However, as per The Athletic, Fitzwater could earn an opportunity to “impress scouts” in the Baggies’ remaining Championship games, due to West Brom being “short of cover” at centre-back. With that in mind, it may be understandable why Fitzwater has returned to training for the Baggies, even if his future doesn’t lie at the Hawthorns.

TIF Thoughts…

Fitzwater has enjoyed some senior football in recent years. In the 2017/18 season, he spent some time on loan at Forest Green Rovers where he made 19 appearances for their senior squad. He also spent some time on loan at Walsall in both the 2017/18 campaign and the 2018/19 campaign, making a total of 42 appearances for their senior squad

This shows that Fitzwater has had the opportunity to show what he can do at senior level in the past and clubs may be keeping a close eye on how his situation develops at the Hawthorns. If the 22-year-old does get the chance to play for the Baggies before the end of the season, it may give clubs who might be interested in the defender an opportunity to assess his current level of ability before pursuing his signature.
