Journalist Alan Nixon has claimed that he believes the proposed takeover of Newcastle United will happen after he was asked by one Toon fan how much longer does he think the takeover process will drag on for.

Nice easy one to start off with, which club did Newcastle United sign Shearer from in 1996?

Nixon didn’t really answer that question, but he did sound confident in his belief that the takeover will be ratified.

He claimed: “It will happen. Just a matter of shuffling papers and keeping up appearances.”

The whole takeover process that could see the end of Mike Ashley was handed over to the Premier League in April after Amanda Staveley’s Saudi-backed consortium handed over a deposit to Ashley.

However, since then, there has been no announcement and though there was hope that the deal would be announced on 1st June, that turned out to be a false dawn.

Richard Masters also confirmed in an interview that there was no timescale for when this process would be completed though George Caulkin seems to believe that most of the checks are now finished.

TIF Thoughts…

Nixon sounds very confident that the takeover will go through but does not provide any timescale. However, if Masters does not know how long it is going to take, then how can we expect anyone else to know?

The whole saga of this Newcastle takeover has dragged on for a while now, and hopefully, there will be some conclusion to it either way soon.

However, if Nixon is to be believed, then when the decision arrives, it will be good news for Newcastle and Staveley’s consortium.
