Leeds United are no longer interested in signing Tottenham Hotspur defender Juan Foyth despite having ‘briefly’ looked at him, according to Phil Hay of The Athletic

The Argentinian defender, who is valued at £12.15 million (as per Transfermarkt), has recently been linked with a move to Elland Road, but it appears the 22-year-old is no longer a target for Marcelo Bielsa’s side.

The Whites currently have Brighton and Hove Albion’s Ben White on loan, but according to Hay, the fact he is ‘right at the very top’ of their list of transfer targets is based on more ‘hope than optimism’.

Leeds currently boast having the best defence in the second tier, but White’s potential departure is likely to be a huge loss, given he has played such a key role in their success so far this season. The 22-year-old has played every minute of every Championship fixture for Bielsa’s side since the start of the 2019/20 campaign (as per Transfermarkt.co.uk).

Nice easy one to start. Who is this current Leeds man?

Foyth’s appearances in the Premier League this season have been limited to just four, and therefore you can understand why Leeds may have at some stage been confident of convincing both Spurs and the player to organise a move to the Yorkshire-based club.

TIF Thoughts…

Although the sample size is low, Foyth’s average performance rating in the Premier League this season currently stands at 6.05/10 (via WhoScored.com). The player has a number of weaknesses that include a lack of concentration, a vulnerability in regards to aerial duels and a lack of discipline (as per WhoScored.com).

Leeds United took another major step towards promotion at the weekend having defeated Fulham and so perhaps they will be looking to invest in somebody they feel is better equipped to marshal their defence for years to come. Judging by Hay’s article, they haven’t yet given up all hope of signing White permanently, either – so the make-up of their backline heading into next season seems to be undetermined at this point.
