On the latest episode of the Anfield Wrap podcast, featuring Neil Atkinson, Adam Smith, Josh Sexton, Paul Senior, Siobhan Biggane and Mike Kearney, unsurprisingly the Liverpool supporters looked back on the Reds becoming Premier League champions last week.

One particular topic of conversation on the recent episode, which was titled: ‘The Champions of England‘, was the fitness of the squad, with a focus on Mohamed Salah. The Egyptian winger was kept on the bench for Liverpool’s returning fixture against Everton but returned to the starting eleven with devastating effect against Crystal Palace last week, grabbing a goal and an assist in the 4-0 win, earning an 8.74 rating (per WhoScored).

How many goals has Mohamed Salah scored in all competitions this season?

Here’s what Senior had to say about Salah’s fitness:

“I’ve been looking at them coming back from lockdown and when you were seeing all these videos of them doing the personal fitness stuff and whatnot, you can just see the absolute professionalism throughout them all, they were all coming back in better shape.

“You see that picture of Mo Salah when he first [came] back and he’s an absolute specimen, isn’t he?

Are you surprised at all by Salah's commitment levels?

“That’s his own personal dedication, he’s done that at home, he’s gone out of his way to be fitter. This is someone who’s one of the top five players in world football and he’s had the presence of mind, the humility to go, ‘I’m going to spend this time to get better.”

TIF Thoughts…

Salah has been in superb form for the Reds so far this season; having contributed 17 goals and seven assists in 27 top-flight appearances, which has seen him average an impressive 7.50 rating (per WhoScored).

It is perhaps no surprise that the 28-year-old is earning a lot of plaudits from Senior, therefore, although it seems as if it was his desire to improve and get even fitter during the enforced break from the Premier League, that impressed him the most.
