Sunderland-focused journalist Phil Smith recently posted a tweet sharing the news that Premier League club Manchester United are reportedly on the verge of signing one of the Black Cats’ “brightest academy prospects” Joe Hugill.
Smith’s tweet shares a link to an article that was recently published by The Sunderland Echo which states that the 16-year-old player has “enjoyed an outstanding campaign” this term. This article goes on to explain that Sunderland and the Red Devils “have agreed a compensation package” for the player.
This report has caught the attention of many Sunderland fans, some of whom have been sharing a negative reaction to this news. One Black Cats supporter even declared that this news is an example of a “gradual dismantling” of their club.

First Logan now another.. can’t blame the young lads for leaving. We have to get out of this mess or we won’t keep any of our young talent.

This has to be questioned and made a big deal of. The club to have any chance under the current model was reliant on these kids. This has set the club back massively and the consequences I fear will be felt for years.

Paul Reids reign has been shambolic and sums up perfectly Stuart Donald’s mis management of our club.

We simply can’t compete with any of the Priemiership, never mind the top six, at this current moment in time. They can persuade families with a good chunk of cash. All we can offer is a development path – money rules??=££££££

Dissapointing news, shame our young players are not given an opportunity in the first team. Nothing could be worse than C Wyke.

Sad for SAFC, typical of the gradual dismantling of a wonderful club.

What do we think?
Considering that Hugill has reportedly enjoyed an impressive campaign in Sunderland’s youth academy, it may be understandable why some Black Cats supporters appear to be disheartened by this news that the youth player is allegedly set to leave the club to join Manchester United.
