Some Celtic fans have been talking about footage of the club’s loss to Porto in the UEFA Cup final.
The Hoops’ 2002/03 UEFA Cup campaign had seen Celtic make their way to the final after losing their Champions League qualifier in August. They had to knock out the likes of Liverpool and Boavista to face Porto in the final (via Transfermarkt).
Hoops-related page CelticLisboa recently posted footage of the game. The video showed Henrik Larsson scoring his two goals in the 3-2 loss to Jose Mourinho’s men. which took place on this day in 2003.
Many Celtic fans flocked to this tweet. They expressed their heartbreak about the game and made their emotions clear.
Haven’t seen these highlights since that day

2 magnificent headers worthy of winning any game. Defence achilles heel unfortunately though Porto skilful team but the cheating by their keeper particularly hard to take.

What do we think?
The game in Seville had seen Celtic lose 3-2 in extra time. The game had ended 2-2 after 90 minutes, before Derlei’s 115th-minute goal saw Porto pick up the title.
Considering how the game had gone into extra time and how the Hoops had gone so far in the competition, the Hoops fans are bound to be heartbroken despite that defeat taking place 17 years ago today. They can only hope that they reach a European final at some point once again and redeem themselves.
