Some Celtic fans have slammed Brendan Rodgers after a post involving their former manager emerged on Twitter.

The Daily Record recently tweeted about Rodgers, sharing an article about him. Rodgers was recently talking on the Eamonn and the Gaffers podcast and said that before he was Celtic manager, he was once at a church during the same time as an Old Firm derby.

When did Celtic first sign their current deal with New Balance?

He said that the people at the church looked ‘deflated’ as Celtic had lost the game, which was their Scottish Cup semi-final defeat in 2016. The Daily Record, in their article, say that this was the ‘catalyst’ for him to take over at Parkhead.

When the Daily Record tweeted this out, many Celtic fans were fuming. They didn’t have the most positive words to say for their former manager.

Rodgers joined Celtic as the club’s manager in the summer of 2016. He left the club in February 2019, joining Leicester City in the Premier League. Before that, Rodgers had managerial spells with Liverpool, Swansea and Reading (via Transfermarkt).

What do we think?

While Celtic fans have the right to be angry because of the way Rodgers left the club (midway through the 2018/19 season), they shouldn’t forget his contributions to the club. He helped the club win as many as seven trophies, including two Premiership titles (via Transfermarkt).

The fact that he helped the club win an unbeaten domestic treble in the 2016/17 season shows that he did very well as the Hoops boss and did enough to be remembered fondly.
