A lot of Newcastle United fans have responded to a tweet from Henry Winter, which includes his piece on what the prospective new owners of Newcastle should do.
Winter believes that the new owners, if allowed to take over Newcastle United, should aim to keep the region’s local talent in the North East and develop them at Newcastle rather than let them leave.
The Times reporter mentions Alan Shearer going to Southampton and Michael Carrick to West Ham United as just two examples of players who have left the North East to seek careers in football.
This has attracted the attention of many Toon fans who agree.
Do you agree with Winter's article?

If #nufc are taken over, local playing talent must be sourced, developed and retained. https://t.co/D3JLE5hwTS

New owners are well aware of this Henry they aren’t daft people they know the Academy needs sorting and training ground rebuilding. Mark my words in the next 5 years nufc will have a new Academy training centre and would of won at least a trophy ? #nufc

A shocking lack of local talent has made it through to the first team over the last twenty years. The Longstaffs, Carroll, Dummett and the Ameobis. For a city obsessed with football, that’s appalling. Would love to see it addressed.

Would love to see this but the trend seems to be the richer the club, the less academy players make it.

I certainly would love this

What do we think?
This is a brilliant piece from Winter, and he makes some good points about what Newcastle United means to the city and why bringing through local talent is so important.
In terms of the takeover itself, it is claimed that the Premier League have approved the deal, and the official announcement of the acquisition will be made on the 1st of June.
It will be interesting to see if that happens, and then if it does, to see if the prospective new owners follow Winter’s advice.
