A lot of Newcastle United fans have replied to a post from Paul Smith criticising Richard Keys for his view on the proposed takeover of the Toon.
Smith claims that Keys is ‘trying to cast more doubt’ over Amanda Staveley’s Saudi-backed consortium’s bid to take Newcastle from Mike Ashley.
This is because the BeIN Sports host claimed that exclusivity for their bid has now ended, which could allow a bid from Henry Mauriss to be considered by Ashley. (3:20)
It appears though that these Toon fans were having none of it.
Do you pay any attention to what Keys says?
No, he hasn't got a clue
Yes, he speaks some sense
I see @richardajkeys who opposes the Saudi takeover at #NUFC is trying to cast more doubt on the deal by implying a rival bid from Henry Mauriss in the US is on the table and the Saudi’s exclusivity period has expired which lets him through the door #NUFCTakeover

Just ignore Keys he knows he’ll get attention of Newcastle fans if he says something controversial… the rest of football has forgotten him and it kills him

Forget about all piracy malarkey.Keys just does not like NUFC-that is the bottom line.

He is wrong on both accounts.

I’m sure Ashley is enjoying that thought..
Didnt the American offer more money for
NUFC..??— Traci eldridge (@Tracieldridge1) May 16, 2020
@richardajkeys is a cheap Qatari voice .. a voice which will soon be silenced not only by the takeover, but also by his studio guests when they commend the new owners and the good they brought to #NUFC???

you have to wonder how keys lasted so long on skysports before being peddled

What do we think?
News of Mauriss’ bid emerged a few weeks ago, and now Keys believes that it has a chance, but the former Sky Sports host has been opposed to this Saudi-backed takeover for a while – a quick look through his timeline will reveal this.
Therefore, it is no surprise that he is still trying to derail it even though it is with the Premier League going through the required checks.
Smith claimed in another tweet that the Premier League are ‘very close’ to granting the deal their approval – which would make Keys’ words redundant.
