Liverpool fans on Twitter have been discussing former Premier League referee Howard Webb.
This comes after Liverpool news Twitter account @LivEchoLFC shared a post on their official page that contained an article from the Liverpool Echo relaying quotes made by Webb over a mistake he made in the 2008/09 season.
Speaking to The Athletic, Webb opened up on a controversial penalty he gave that sparked Manchester United’s comeback against Tottenham Hotspur in the Red Devils’ 5-2 victory back in 2009.
Rafa Benitez’s Liverpool side were top of the table going into the clash, but ended up losing the league by four points to the Manchester club.
Now that Webb’s revelation has made its way onto Twitter, this opened the door for lots of Liverpool fans to have their say on the former referee.
Here’s a sample of Liverpool fans responding to the post:

What do we think?
It seems as though these Liverpool fans are not surprised by Webb’s confession. It’s hard to say whether or not United would have gone on to win the title that season if they hadn’t managed to beat Spurs on that day.
