The Athletic’s Steve Madeley recently caught the attention of many West Brom fans on Twitter, after he posted a tweet sharing an article from The Athletic which discusses “the prospect of the EFL season being cut short”.
This article discusses some of the alleged thoughts of those behind the scenes at West Brom, over the possibility of the 2019/20 season being cut short as a result of the current viral outbreak which has already caused the season to be postponed.
While those behind the scenes at The Hawthorns have reportedly got an “overwhelming desire” to see the 2019/20 campaign resume, this article goes on to explain that the decision-makers at Albion believe that their club “would be better-placed than many clubs to regroup and rebound strongly”.
Many Baggies fans have flocked to Madeley’s tweet sharing this article. While those behind the scenes at the Hawthorns appear to be calm over the prospect of the Baggies potentially being denied promotion this season, some of the West Brom fans who have been responding to this post have been sharing some concerns about a premature end to the season.

Albion would like the season to be completed. They want promotion.
But there a sense of calm at the possibility of another season in the Championship.

Honestly, I’m worried. We can NOT let them void it easily. We’ve been top 2 all season.

My worry is cashflow.
TV money gone
Ticket sales gone
Matchday revenue gone
Then you have advertisers that may want their money back along with no parachute money if season is null and void. With an owner unwilling to invest all this is going to sting.— Mogster (@Jasemor) April 29, 2020
Would West Brom earn promotion next season if the 2019/20 season is ruled null and void?YES, IT WOULD JUST POSTPONE OUR PROMOTION BY A YEARNO, WE WOULDN'T BE ABLE TO DO IT AGAIN NEXT YEAR |
I fear for us if we dont go up steve players will be gone and we will have players with less ability .
— Andy the baggie (@BaggieFrom) April 29, 2020
Yeh,But we could lose some of the better players,–Pereira,Krov, etc.

Some Baggies fans have been questioning the possibility of Matheus Pereira not joining the club on a permanent basis, should the 2019/20 season be cut short.
What happens with Periera if the season is voided? Does the loan agreement start again? Or does the original agreement stand and when he reaches x amount of games concurrently from this season to the start next the agreement kicks in?
— Matt Wheatley (@WBA1878) April 29, 2020
Steve where does the club stand with Periera ? If season voided can we afford to still sign him ?
— Hunty ????????? (@huntywbafc) April 29, 2020
There’s also the question of Pereira; will his deal still go through? Are we committed to signing him? Can someone else snatch him off us? One more match and he’d have been our player, if the season is voided, does he return to Portugal?

What do we think?
Pereira would have seen his move to West Brom become permanent had he started the Baggies’ clash with Birmingham City that was scheduled to take place last March, as per The Express and Star, who explain that the playmaker was one league start away from seeing his move to The Hawthorns become permanent. However, this game ended up being postponed, which leaves Pereira sitting on 29 league starts for the 2019/20 campaign.
Pereira has been West Brom’s highest-rated player in the Championship this season, according to WhoScored.com. With that in mind, it may be understandable why some Baggies fans have shared some concern regarding the status of the Brazilian’s permanent move to The Hawthorns, should the 2019/20 season be cut short.
