Sheffield Wednesday-focused Twitter account @Owlstalk recently posted a tweet which claims that “rumours amongst Newcastle fans” are indicating that Mike Ashley could be interested in purchasing their club. 

Mike Ashley is allegedly “planning to buy an EFL club once a £300m takeover at Newcastle United goes through”, according to The Daily Star, via nufcblog.co.uk. Ashley is reportedly in the process of selling Newcastle United at present, with Sky Sports recently reporting that the Magpies’ new prospective owners, PCP Capital Partners, have already “paid a deposit and exchanged contracts” with current Newcastle owner Ashley. 

As per The Daily Star’s article, via nufcblog.co.uk, Ashley would love to invest in an EFL club “with a sound fanbase and potential to grow”, upon completing the sale of Newcastle United.

While some Owls fans have shared a negative reaction to the prospect of Mike Ashley buying the club, others have been more positive in response to this tweet.

Ashley has been an unpopular figure with many Newcastle United fans throughout his tenure as owner of the club. With that in mind, it may be understandable why some of these Wednesday fans would not like the controversial man to get involved with their club.
