A group of Charlton Athletic supporters have been discussing Jonathan Leko, who returned to West Bromwich Albion in January having spent some time on loan at the Valley. Leko arrived in south-east London in August 2019 and made his way back to the West Midlands approximately five months later (via Transfermarkt.co.uk).
During his time with the Addicks, he made 21 appearances, scoring five goals and providing four assists according to Transfermarkt.co.uk. However, the Kinshasa-born winger is currently sidelined after suffering an ACL injury, hence the termination of his loan spell with Lee Bowyer’s side.
@rocco_cafc‘s post was an image of the 21-year-old with the following caption: “This guy was taking us to the Prem.” Here is how some of the club’s fanbase have responded to the claim.
Very overrated now imo. Clearly a good player but so frustrating a lot of the time with his decision making. I’m sure in a few years he’ll be a cracking player if West Brom give him time

Absolute baller. Least he had the confidence to take on his man and score some belters

He was much better as a right winger than a strike . Shame we had all the injuries and had to put him up there

Did Jonathan Leko impress you prior to his injury?
Yes
No
He was awful, lazy and ineffective… Had the odd decent game. Undoubtedly loads of potential but shirked off-the-ball duties.. Could be a star in the future as had potential but thought very poor for us

Yes you’re right, unpopular as you were the only one who believed it

What do we think?
It’s clear that these Charlton Athletic supporters are divided on whether or not Leko impressed during his time with the club. Prior to his injury, his average performance rating in the Championship this season stood at 6.64/10, according to WhoScored.com – but as mentioned by the fans, he was asked to play out of position regularly.
