Some Celtic fans have been discussing former defender Jason Denayer and how his time at Parkhead was.
A Hoops-related page called St. Anthony recently posted an image of Denayer on social media. The image carried a caption describing Denayer as a defender who was ‘better than’ Virgil van Dijk and that he was more of a naturally defensive player than the Dutchman.
On seeing this post, many Celtic fans were left talking about their former defender. Some felt that he wasn’t better than Van Dijk but they both complemented each other very well.

Super defender but no-one tops VvD, not even Big Billy or George C were better CBs (and I watched all three). Actually thought JD could have gone on to be world-class defensive midfielder.

Was Denayer better than Van Dijk in the 2014-15 season?
Never!
I think he was
Yessss. I thought I was only one who thought that at time and that he made virgil a better defender too

Denayer had been at Parkhead for just one season. He had arrived on loan from Manchester City in the summer of 2014 and left the club in the summer of 2015. He is currently at Lyon and is teammates with another former Hoops star in Moussa Dembele.
What do we think?
During his time at Celtic, Denayer had made 44 appearances in all competitions. He had scored six goals, picking up two assists. Five of those six goals had come in the Premiership.
This shows that despite being at Celtic for just a season, Denayer didn’t let anyone down. He did score some goals despite playing at centre-back. The comments of the Celtic fans show that they do respect whatever he did, even though it is arguable whether he was as good as Van Dijk.
