Some Celtic fans have been discussing an image of Jorge Cadete that grabbed their attention on Twitter recently.
Celtic fan St. Anthony recently posted an image of Cadete. The post asked fans if the Portuguese could have made a difference for the Hoops if he had ‘arrived on time’. The Portuguese’s transfer was subject to delays upon his belated arrival in 1996.
On seeing this post, many Celtic fans were discussing Cadete. Many of them made it clear that he would have made a difference if he had arrived at the club earlier though not everyone was positive about the former forward.
It wasn’t red tape just blatant cheating.

Was Cadete unfairly treated at Celtic?
He was
I don't think so
Might have made a difference if he’d been honest and honoured his contract. Excellent player but I just don’t understand the hero worship of the guy

Sadly, we’ll never know!! However, what we do know is the instant impact he did make!!…… There in lies the answer we all know!!!

Could have been hero status if he had stayed. Had everything in his locker. Sadly threw it all away and his career seemed to just fizzle out….

Will we ever know the real reason why his goal at Ibrox was disallowed? They panicked afterwards and ref said handball whereas the linesman said offside – it was neither … robbed!

Proven corruption……

What do we think?
Cadete eventually joined Celtic in April 1996 but would go on to leave little over a year later to join Spanish side Celta Vigo – which may explain some fans’ bitterness towards the striker.
The former Hoops star was the Premiership’s top goalscorer in the 1996/97 season (via Transfermarkt) and showed that he was a very reliable goal-getter at Celtic.
Celtic fans have their right to talk about the off-field controversies as Cadete would join weeks late into a season which saw the Hoops miss out on the title by four points. But perhaps it is time they should respect the player for his brief service and look back on the fond memories of his goalscoring heroics.
