Fans of Manchester City have been reacting to a post on Twitter, which relays reports that Raheem Sterling would be open to a sensational return to his former club, Liverpool.

According to reports in French publication L’Equipe (via Sport Witness), a member of the 25-year-old’s entourage stated: “Even if Raheem is attached to Manchester City, he hasn’t forgotten Liverpool, because that’s where he became who he is as a man and as a player.”

According to WhoScored, who is City's top Premier League goalscorer so far this season?

L’Equipe (via Sport Witness) also states that Liverpool would like to make one big signing this summer, and that it could well involve bringing Raheem Sterling back to Merseyside from Manchester City.

In addition to this, should Manchester City’s ban from Champions League football be upheld, it is thought that Pep Guardiola’s side could struggle to retain the winger, who is currently in discussions over a new contract with City, however, reports suggest that those talks are ‘in vain at the moment’.

In reaction to the reports, which were relayed by City Chief on Twitter, fans of the club have flocked to share their opinions on the matter, with many suggesting that City should indeed sell Sterling, while others have claimed that it could be an opportunity for City to bring back a former player of their own in Jadon Sancho.

One fan even suggested that Liverpool fans hate him, which certainly appeared to be the case upon his departure from Anfield back in 2015, even if only out of jealousy.

What do we think?

While the return of Sterling to Liverpool would certainly be surprising, it is equally so to hear that so many City fans would not mind seeing the England international leave their club.

This season, the £144 million-rated Sterling has scored 11 goals and provided two assists in 24 Premier League appearances, in addition to a further five goals and four assists in his seven Champions League fixtures, averaging an impressive WhoScored match rating of 7.19 in the league, and an even more impressive 7.67 rating in Europe.

As such, it is certainly shocking to see that so many City fans want rid of Sterling this summer.
