Birmingham City manager Pep Clotet recently spoke to Spanish publication AS where he discussed the possibility of taking his coaching career back to Spain.

AS published their recent interview with Clotet on Monday. The 42-year-old coach discusses various topics in this interview, including the possibility of returning to Spain, Clotet’s country of birth, to manage there once again.

To kick off our quiz on the inaugural 2004/05 EFL Championship campaign, who managed Sunderland to a first-place finish in the 2004/05 Championship season?

Clotet previously worked as a manager in Spain from July 2001 until October 2009. He subsequently spent some time in Sweden and Norway before returning to his home nation to manage Atletico Malagueno from July 2012 until July 2013, which was his last job in Spain before arriving in the United Kingdom in May 2014 to become Garry Monk’s assistant manager at Swansea City – remaining in the UK ever since.

When recently questioned on whether he’s got any desire to return to Spain, Clotet admitted that despite being happy with his performance in England thus far, the idea of returning to Spain is on his mind.

After linking up once again with Monk as assistant manager at Birmingham City in March 2018, Clotet became Blues manager last July following Monk’s departure.

This season, the Blues have earned a total of 47 points from their 37 Championship games thus far under Clotet, which sees them currently sitting in 16th place in the Championship table, nine points away from Preston North End in the play-offs. Their total is just three points fewer than what the Blues had earned at the same stage last season

Considering that this is his first season as manager of the club and his current Birmingham City contract is set to run until the summer of 2021, it may be unlikely that we will see Clotet leave St. Andrew’s at the end of the season.

However, should he fail to bring success to the Blues by the end of next season, it may be understandable if the 42-year-old would like to return to manage in his native Spain once again.
