Some West Brom fans have shared their belief that Charlie Austin ‘must start’ for the Baggies in Tuesday’s FA Cup clash with Newcastle United.
The Championship’s current leaders West Brom host the Premier League’s 14th-placed side Newcastle United in their FA Cup fifth-round tie on Tuesday evening. The Baggies may see this game as an opportunity to claim a second straight Premier League scalp in this season’s FA Cup, following their fourth-round victory over West Ham back in January.
The 30-year-old attacker, who is valued at £3.6m by Transfermarkt, has started both of West Brom’s previous two FA Cup fixtures this season. However, he hasn’t started any of the Baggies’ last six Championship games – since their 2-0 win over Luton at the beginning of February. Therefore, Austin may be hopeful of seeing some game time in Tuesday’s FA Cup fixture.
Some West Brom supporters have been calling for Austin to play in Tuesday’s fifth-round FA Cup game versus Newcastle United on social media. Read the posts from some Baggies fans calling for Austin to start in the tweets below.

What do we think?
Despite being out of favour recently, Austin has shown his ability to score goals for the Baggies this season. The 30-year-old attacker has netted a total of eight Championship goals for West Brom this season, making him the league leaders’ second-highest goalscorer for the 2019/20 Championship campaign thus far.
That is despite playing only 1,128 minutes of Championship football, which is a lower total of Championship minutes than what 13 other Baggies players have accumulated this season.
Tuesday’s FA Cup tie may provide West Brom with a golden opportunity to give Austin some minutes that could see him get back to goalscoring form, having scored just one goal in his last 12 West Brom appearances.
