It was a brilliant night for Chelsea as they beat Liverpool in the FA Cup fifth round last night. After the match fans and pundits praised the performance of young Billy Gilmour

Gilmour previously played for the Rangers U17s before completing his move to Chelsea’s youth program. Since then he has climbed the ranks of the London club’s youth system.

After the match Rangers fan @Cjnovo992 joked that the player would have never made it at Rangers. He plays too many forward passes when Rangers clearly like to pass the ball back to Connor Goldson instead.

Other fans shared their regrets that the player eventually left. They admit that he is a brilliant player, as well as a couple doubting whether he would have succeeded at Ibrox.

Was letting Billy Gilmour leave Rangers a mistake?

Yes

Yes

No

No

One fan admits that if Gilmour was still at Rangers he would still be a youth player. They clearly don’t trust their club’s ability to promote youth. Another fan is unbothered, claiming that he would rather have Ianis Hagi anyway.

What do we think?

At just 18 years of age, Gilmour has a lot of time to cement himself into Frank Lampard’s team. If he can produce performances as he did against Liverpool on a regular basis, then perhaps we will see him featured more regularly going forward?
