Fans of Nottingham Forest have been reacting to a club statement on Twitter, which confirms all players, staff and officers have been tested for the coronavirus and all results have come back negative.

Following the news that the owner of Nottingham Forest and Olympiakos, Evangelos Marinakis, had tested positive for coronavirus, the club feared that players, coaches and staff at the club could have also contracted the virus, as Marinakis had attended Forest’s 3-0 defeat to Millwall last week.

However, in a statement posted on Wednesday lunchtime, the club announced: “Nottingham Forest can confirm that all players, staff and officers have been tested for the coronavirus and all results have come back negative. Within hours of receiving the news that owner Evangelos Marinakis had tested positive for the virus, the club took swift action to arrange tests for the entire first-team players, staff and officers that came into contact with the owner last week.”

In reaction to the news, Forest fans took to social media, with many stating their delight, while others questioned whether or not the negative results would mean that Forest’s future fixtures remain unaffected.

What do we think?

The fact that the tests returned negatively will relieve not only Nottingham Forest players and fans, but also the EFL in general. However, the threat of the coronavirus outbreak to the operation of the EFL and the Premier League remains a very real one, as has been seen in Italy, where all domestic sport has been suspended until 3rd April.
