Fans of Millwall have been reacting to footage posted on Twitter, which discusses whether Matt Smith got a touch on Jayson Molumby’s goal-bound effort in the Lion’s 3-0 victory over Nottingham Forest last weekend.

Matt Smith, who arrived at Millwall from QPR last summer, has been in fine form for the Lions this season, scoring 11 goals and providing four assists in his 33 Championship appearances.

The striker has averaged an impressive WhoScored match rating of 7.06 throughout the campaign so far, however, his best performance of the season came last Friday evening, in which Millwall defeated Nottingham Forest 3-0 at the City Ground with three first-half goals.

The 30-year-old scored a perfect 10 WhoScored match rating, winning 14 aerial duels, and scoring with three out of his four shots in the match, leaving the game with the match-ball and the Man of the Match award.

Having said this, one of Smith’s goals caused controversy somewhat, when Jayson Molumby’s goal-bound effort appeared to take a slight deflection off of either Smith or Forest defender Joe Worrall, before the goal was awarded to the Millwall striker.

Following the match, the official Millwall Twitter account posted footage of the goal, which sparked a debate between the Millwall fans as to which of their players should be awarded the finish.

What do we think?

Regardless of whether or not Smith deflected Molumby’s shot in, Millwall fans will be delighted with their win at Forest.

The victory has worked wonders for Millwall’s play-off chances, with the South London club now sitting in eighth place in the Championship table, two points of Preston North End in sixth place and just six behind their beaten opponents Forest in fifth.
